KOREFIB^® Rebar are composite reinforcing bars made from glass fibres and a polymer matrix. They are used as a modern alternative to steel reinforcement where long service life, low weight and corrosion resistance are decisive.

Typical applications: foundation slabs, floors, ground-supported concrete slabs, walls, precast elements, agricultural buildings, wet environments and chemically aggressive settings.

Where GFRP bars are used

GFRP reinforcement is used mainly where steel reinforcement is at long-term risk of corrosion, or where low weight and non-conductivity are an advantage. It makes the most sense in structures exposed to moisture, salts, chemicals or aggressive environments.

Steel reinforcement corrodes. Often you are solving an unnecessary problem.

Steel reinforcement is strong and stiff, but in aggressive environments it has a fundamental weakness: corrosion. Once moisture, chlorides or chemicals reach the structure, steel can start to degrade, create pressure on the concrete and lead to cracks and costly repairs.

Composite KOREFIB^® Rebar bars do not corrode, are significantly lighter than steel and can be easily transported, cut and stored without heavy handling.

GFRP reinforcement is not an automatic bar-for-bar replacement for steel. It has high tensile strength but a different modulus of elasticity. The design must correspond to the specific structure, loading and the requirements of the structural engineer.

Available diameters, coils and cut lengths

We supply KOREFIB^® Rebar as standard in diameters suitable for common construction use. The bars can be supplied in coils or cut to length according to the needs of the specific order.

KOREFIB^® Rebar 5 mm: light applications, distribution and supplementary reinforcement
KOREFIB^® Rebar 6 mm: floors, slabs, precast and common use
KOREFIB^® Rebar 8 mm: higher tensile capacity and more demanding applications
KOREFIB^® Rebar 10 mm: structures with a higher requirement for tensile reinforcement
Coils: standard 50 m and 100 m
Other sizes: larger diameters and cut lengths on individual request

Sand-coated surface and bond with concrete

KOREFIB^® Rebar bars have a sand-coated surface that improves the bond with concrete and helps transfer tensile forces between the reinforcement and the concrete structure.

The material is made from high-strength glass fibres embedded in a composite matrix. It does not corrode, is lightweight and is easy to transport, cut and install directly on site.

Comparison with steel reinforcement

Composite KOREFIB^® Rebar bars are significantly lighter than steel reinforcement at high tensile strength, do not corrode and are non-conductive. GFRP has a lower modulus of elasticity than steel, so it is necessary to assess not only strength but also deformations, cracking and anchorage in the specific structure.

How to work with KOREFIB^® Rebar

Working with GFRP bars is easier thanks to their low weight, but the material has different rules than steel. The bars are generally not bent on site; shaped elements must be arranged in advance.

store the bars so that the surface is not mechanically damaged,
when cutting, use a suitable disc and protect eyes, hands and airways,
maintain the reinforcement cover and position according to the design,
fix the reinforcement with plastic ties or suitable binding,
handle laps, anchorage and connections according to the structural engineer's design,
for structurally significant elements, always base the work on a calculation, not on a mere diameter comparison with steel.
